Greenhouse Raised Bed Preparation
Here’s a summary of what I did to prepare the soil for the raised beds in my new greenhouse, along with a look at the current layout. It’s really starting to come together. Needless to say, I’m very proud of the results.
Allotment diary planting early onion sets in modules for faster growth
Just a quick video of what you can do to speed up your onion growing from early bought onion sets. Instead of just storing them until mid march or early April to plant them, you can simply plant each set into a module tray in February and this should bring them into growth earlier, and then when the soil warms up you can plant them out on the allotment and they’ll be about a month ahead.

For my birthday on June 19th I received a 0 voucher from my other half, Christopher. With it I decided to buy myself a REAL worm farm and some more worms. 2011 Raised Bed Expansion- Part 3
Part 3 of the raised bed expansion. This last bed in built into a deeper sloping hill. Next year I will need to add another layer (2 x 6 board) on top of the two layers I built this year. I want and think I need to in order to keep the grass out of the bed. My goal for 2011 is 500 lbs of vegetables. In 2011 I grew 175 lbs from 73 square feet of garden. This year the garden will be 188 square feet.

Combined with canning and dehydrating I find a “raised bed garden” to be a key player in my “food storage”. With a collection of various seeds in my preps I believe a “raised bed garden” is a step in the right direction for sustainability and a hedge against rising food prices. In addition a “raised bed garden” also helps cut down on the amount of water required to raise vegetables here in the desert. PS this “raised bed garden” was constructed for next to nothing thanks to the free stuff section of craigslist, a huge boost for my “food storage” on a budget.
