Allotment diary planting early onion sets in modules for faster growth

Just a quick video of what you can do to speed up your onion growing from early bought onion sets. Instead of just storing them until mid march or early April to plant them, you can simply plant each set into a module tray in February and this should bring them into growth earlier, and then when the soil warms up you can plant them out on the allotment and they’ll be about a month ahead.

Help with raised garden beds?

Im building 5 raised garden beds in the backyard. Ive purchased redwood lumber for construction. i am stacking 3 boards(2×6 8ft) high, giving me a bed depth of 17". one bed is 24′x3′ split in 3 sections, and 4 will be 16′x4′ split 2 sections. im in socal and soil is sandy. looking for suggestions regarding lining the bed with plastic or rubber or bare. just trying to make wood last, was expensive. how long will redwood last with soil in contact with wood. how high should i fill soil and what soil to use.(top soil, mixed, manure) and lastly, fenced garden area is 27′x21′. should taller plants(corn, vines) be planted on north side? Im assuming sun from south and will cast shadow. TIA
